ACTIVE INGREDIENTS

Bio Spot for Cats contains two different active ingredients: an insecticide, and an insect growth regulator. Methoprene is used in several different flea formulas, since it acts as a juvenile hormone analog to keep fleas from maturing to their adult state. Methoprene is classified as being non-toxic to all mammals when ingested or inhaled. Bio Spot for cats also contains etofenprox, an insecticide that is a pyrethroid derivative. Etofenprox is classified as an axonic poison, which works to keep the sodium channels open in the neuronal membrane of insects. This causes paralysis and eventual death in fleas. However, this insecticide has also proven to be relatively fatal to bees, dragonflies and other beneficial insects, which has caused an ongoing debate about its use.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS AND RATINGS

Customer reviews in regards to Bio Spot for Cats are approximately 30% positive and 70% negative. The most common complaint among most cat owners was that this product is not effective at treating fleas for more than a few days. However, a potentially serious complaint among some cat owners was that upon giving this product to their cat, the cat became extremely sick. Upon further research, it seems that most of the cats that were sick upon receiving Bio Spot for Cats were diagnosed with Permethrin/Pyrethrin Toxicity. It is a well known fact that Pyrethrins can be extremely toxic to cats, especially when given in high doses. Most of the cats that got very sick after being given Bio Spot for Cats had to have a complete IV fluid flush of their system in a veterinary hospital. In addition to this, some cats seemed to have odd neurological reactions after being given Bio Spot, such as seizures. Though these seizures seem to be relatively mild (and are reported to disappear after two days), it is still worth noting that some cat owners associated these reactions with Bio Spot for Cats.

The low percentage of positive reviews about Bio Spot for Cats reported that it was given to multiple cats without any visible health problems. However, some cat owners admitted that it did not work for the full four weeks as advertised on the product’s packaging, usually only being effective for less than a week.
