- Advantage Multi for Dogs - Advantage Multi for Dogs is a product manufactured by Bayer for control of both internal and external parasites in dogs. Advantage Multi for Dogs is stated as being able to prevent infestations with fleas, hookworms, whipworms, heartworms and roundworms in dogs.

ADVANTAGE MULTI ACTIVE INGREDIENTS
Advantage Multi is a parasite control product that has a multi-faceted approach to controlling parasite infections in both dogs and cats. The reason for this is that Advantage Multi contains two different insect control ingredients, which are Moxidectin and Imidacloprid. Both of these ingredients are used for the control of parasites, though each ingredient affects certain types of organisms. Moxidectin is a parasiticide, and is mostly used for the treatment of intestinal worms and heartworms. As a stand-alone treatment, Moxidectin is usually administered orally, topically, or injected as a supplemental treatment. Moxidectin selectively binds to the glutamine-gated chloride ion channels in certain parasites. These channels are essential in order for many parasitic invertebrates to function properly. Moxidectin causes paralysis and death to parasites that have a sensitivity to this type of ion channel blockage.
When Moxidectin is combined with Imidacloprid, a larger number of parasitic organisms are able to be treated. Imidacloprid is among a group of insecticides that are modeled after nicotine, though Imidacloprid itself is a patented chemical solution. Imidacloprid acts on the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor in many insects. Since it is a neurotoxin, Imidacloprid causes paralysis and death to fleas, ticks, and several other parasites. Though Imidacloprid can be very toxic in high doses, it has a relatively low toxicity in animals other than insects, due to its specific receptor interaction with the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor.
ADVANTAGE MULTI PRODUCT FEATURES
This product is a topical medication, and is usually applied to an animal’s skin for treatment. It is very important to prevent a dog or cat from licking the area where the product is applied, since ingestion of Advantage Multi can result in some debilitating side effects. Though not usually toxic to animals, some animals may be sensitive to certain ingredients in Advantage Multi, which will result in more severe complications if the product is ingested.
ADVANTAGE MULTI CUSTOMER REVIEWS AND RATINGS
The main benefit cited by most consumers about Advantage Multi is that it takes the place of two different parasite control products – flea control and heartworm medication. Because of this, many pet owners see Advantage Multi as being a viable option for monthly medication for their animals. Main complaints about the product were the expensive price and sometimes messy application of Advantage Multi. However, as far as effectiveness, the majority of pet owners reported complete success in Advantage Multi treating their pets for fleas, heartworms and intestinal worms. This product is not for small dogs even though the product is for their weight. I put this on my beagle/chiahua mix who weighs in at 3.5 lbs and he had severe saliva, grand mal seizures, loss of appetite and no coordination what so ever and I had to take him to an emergency clinic in the middle of the night because he also had shallow breathing, and all of this led to pulmonary edema and almost death. He is going through extensive oxygen therapy and treatments.
