ADVANTAGE MULTI FOR DOGS REVIEWS
Advantage Multi for Dogs is a product manufactured by Bayer for control of both internal and external parasites in dogs. Advantage Multi for Dogs is stated as being able to prevent infestations with fleas, hookworms, whipworms, heartworms and roundworms in dogs. Though Advantage Multi for Dogs does currently not include active ingredients to treat or prevent tick infestations, it is often used in addition to other tick control products. In addition to producing Advantage Multi for Dogs, Bayer’s Animal Health division also produces Advantage Multi for Cats, Advantage (for dogs and cats) and K9 Advantix. Advantage Multi for Dogs is available at most veterinary hospitals, though a prescription is required in order to purchase this product.
Advantage for Dogs is currently available in four different weight-specific formulas. These formulas are designed for dogs from 3 to 9 lbs, 9.1 to 20 lbs, 20.1 to 55 lbs and 55.1 to 88 lbs. In order for Advantage Multi for Dogs to be administered properly, it is necessary to part a dog’s fur on the back of their neck to ensure that the product is applied as close to the skin as possible.
There are two active ingredients contained in Advantage Multi for dogs, each of which helps to treat either external or internal parasites. Imidacloprid is a neonicotinoid, which helps to kill adult fleas, flea larvae, and flea eggs. This is used in combination with moxidectin, which is a parasiticide that treats and prevents infection with several different species of intestinal worms, as well as heartworm.

Since Advantage Multi is a topical solution, allergic reactions usually appear as a rash or severe itching at the application site. If ingested, Advantage Multi can produce some alarming side effects, which were cited by some dog owners. Advantage Multi specifically states in the instructions that the product is not to be ingested, since it can cause side effects such as lethargy and severe, uncontrollable salivation. However, instances of these side effects are relatively rare, and only affect a small percentage of dogs that are given Advantage Multi.
Positive factors of Advantage Multi seem to be the effectiveness of the product, which prevents infestation with fleas and several different intestinal parasites. The fact that Advantage Multi for Dogs also treats heartworm was a positive factor for many dog owners, since this eliminates the need to purchase additional monthly medication for their dog.
