Advantage for Dogs Reviews
Advantage for Dogs is a flea control product marketed and manufactured by the Bayer Company. Advantage for Dogs is available for use on all dogs that are seven weeks of age or older, and is marketed as being very effective in eradicating flea infestations on dogs. Advantage for Dogs is marketed as being able to kill approximately 98 – 100% of fleas on an infected dog within twelve hours. In addition to producing Advantage for Dogs, Bayer also produces Advantage for Cats, Advantage Multi (for dogs and cats) and K9 Advantix. Since Advantage for Dogs is not designed to kill ticks on a dog, it is recommended that it be used with a supplemental tick control product.
ADVANTAGE FOR CAT FORMULAS
There are currently four different Advantage for Dogs formulas available. Each formula is designed to be effective for dogs in a specific weight bracket, and has adjusted active ingredient levels. The lowest weight-based formula is designed for dogs and puppies under 10lbs. The next formula is designed for dogs that are from 11 – 20 lbs. The second-heaviest dog weight class formula is for dogs from 21 – 55 lbs, and the last formula is for dogs that weigh over 55 lbs. Advantage for Dogs is available both in a 4 month supply package, and a 6 month supply package.
ACTIVE INGREDIENT
The active ingredient in Bayer Advantage for Dogs is called imidacloprid. Imidacloprid is a special insecticide that was both researched and developed by the Bayer company’s CropSciences division. In addition to being used in Advantage for Dogs formula, imidacloprid is also widely used for eradicating pests on commercial crops and vegetation. However, there has been some recent debate as to if imidacloprid has a potentially serious hazardous effect on honeybees, which could result in a disruption of the ecosystem.
ADVANTAGE FOR DOGS CUSTOMER REVIEWS AND RATINGS
Though most customer reviews about Advantage for Dogs are positive, there are a few notable complaints. Many dog owners complained that the product didn’t seem to be effective at eradicating fleas on their dogs. Some dog owners admitted that Advantage for Dogs seemed to be effective at first, though it did not last the full four weeks that is advertised on the product label. A few dog owners reported that their dogs experienced moderate to severe allergic skin reactions after being given Advantage for Dogs, which usually manifested as redness, itching and a rash. The relatively high expense of Advantage for Dogs was another common complaint.
However, in the positive reviews, many dog owners stated that they were willing to pay the extra money for Advantage for Dogs since they view it as being a high quality product. Most dog owners do not report any problems with Advantage for Dogs, and confirm that it begins killing fleas on their dogs in a relatively short time. In addition to this, many consumers did not have the complaint of the product only being effective for a relatively short period of time, reporting that it kept their dogs completely flea-free for the full four weeks.
